Wordless Picture Books

Flashlight

There are always so many books out there that are about night and incorporate different stories. This wordless picture book setting is night inside a tent. There's some questions that the book makes the reader pose to make it more interesting. For example, some of the questions I had were What is going on outside of the tent? Is it dark? Is it scary? Who is out there? If you have your trusty flashlight with you, then it seems like you are golden in this story of the book. Through the images the artist seems to have created a great exploration of night and nature in the element of art. The book really portrays the reader to see what can be part of  the night and what you can truly see using your flashlight. Overall I would give this book a rating of 4 out of 5 because there are many imaginations that children can create when they are reading the book. It naturally guides children to make predictions.

  1. I cannot wait to read this one! The illustrations look really gorgeous, and the storyline sounds delightful. I believe this one may be a contender for the 2015 Caldecott--I've heard it is getting some buzz.

  3. I would love to read this one! I love the cover and it immediately reminds me of my childhood and all of the memories I have camping with my family. I am also really scared of the dark so relying on light to guide me through definitely makes me feel safe and less afraid which is a concept that children can relate to as well.
